Unknown to most is the fact that every day foods, herbs and supplements and can not interact with popular prescription drugs. I was interested, while in conversation with my pharmacist, who was not my son decongestant cold medications with his heart medication. Now I knew on the interactions between the two drugs, but when the pharmacist told me that he was not with grapefruit juice, are stunned. It seems that grapefruit juice increases the blood levels of the drug.Basically, this means that there is a substantial increase the effect of the drug, which would in an overdose of the drug. This is the grapefruit juice every day! You should ask other everyday foods and herbs that we take. Here are some foods and herbs that have an impact on your medication.

People usually ask if Herbal supplements, such as changing their work without prescription. The answer is YES! Some medications should never be taken with herbal supplements. Some medicines can cause unwanted side effects or stop drugworking to produce their full effect.
Another misconception about supplements is that they are completely safe, because they are of natural origin. Yes, they can plant, but are not natural to the body. Herbal preparations are not tested or how prescription drugs are examined and tested so that the increases vary in quality and strength of the pill, the pill and bottle to bottle.
Just as dietary supplements can modify how your body reacts to medicines. An example is grapefruits andGrapefruit juice. Many people are aware that grapefruit juice may increase drug levels of certain drugs. An increase in the level will also increase the side effects of medication.
Things to remember
1. Herbal supplements and foods can work the way the drug.
2. Inform your healthcare professional what herbal products, and what foods they eat often.
3. Ask your doctor or pharmacist that with herbal supplements or foods that interactionDrugs.

Analgesics (painkillers)

Food: Citrus / juices and carbonated drinks decrease the desired effect.

Food: Take 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking antacids, dairy products, AMD multi-vitamins, calcium, containing iron, zinc and magnesium.
Herbs to increase: Dong Quai or St. John's, the risk of sunburn.
Trimethoprim / sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim,Septra)
Foods: Can cause skin rash, if with alcohol.

Anticoagulants (blood thinners)
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Food: Avoid alcohol. Avoid foods high in vitamin K: beef liver, oils and green leafy vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, spinach).
Herbs: Avoid black cohosh, dong quai, evening primrose oil,Feverfew, flax seed oil and Ginko as it increases the risk of bleeding. Do not take St. John's wort, as it may reduce the desired effect.
